OpenOffice 3.0 preview
The Openoffice devolopers are going strong for a feature-rich major release in (September?) 2008, even if the release date of 2.4 is resheduled over and over. It seems, that the gap between Office and OpenOffice will still last a few years.
I also experience non solvable compatibility issues, especially with my mobile (N73). Due to this, what isn't going to be solved soon, there is at least one reason for keeping non open source software around. Another one is for sure the OoWriter startup speed and a few missing OoImpress features. The last presentation simply looked way better and was much easier put together with PowerPoint.
But besides this, there will be only one real chance for OpenOffice to compete with Office in the long run. It's as simple as said, the opening of formats. Maybe Microsofts open source strategy is going to open them in the next years, but i doubt that they'll slaughter their cash cow.

Wer auf die deutsch lokalisierte OpenOffice 2.4er Version für w32 upgraden mag, der kann das entsprechende torrent file auch einfach hier herunterladen. Die Datei liegt natürlich auch auf dem Server, der fleißig mit verteilt.
Viel Spaß also damit!
